Current Affairs of UNWTO World Tourism Day 2020 Theme: The World Tourism Day is held every year on 27 September. The year 2020 has been declared the “Year of Tourism and Rural Development” by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
About World Tourism Day
The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to expressing how it impacts social, cultural, political, and economic values around the world..Generally, the day is hosted by a single member state of the United Nations. But now for the first time in the history of World Tourism Day, the official celebration of 2020 will be organized by a group of nations called Mercosur bloc.
The Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, with Chile and Member Associate countries joining the observer status) will serve as joint hosts. The Mercosur bloc’s associate members are Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Guyana, Ecuador, Peru, and Suriname.The primary focus of the bloc is to promote the fluid movement of goods, current, and people, and also encourage free trade, And Mercosur bloc is a South American trade bloc formed in 1991 by the Treaty of Asunción.

The 2020 edition of World Tourism Day, with the theme of “Tourism and Rural Development” will celebrate the crucial role that tourism plays in providing opportunities outside of big cities and sustaining cultural and natural heritage all around the world.
World Tourism Day in India
World Tourism Day was celebrated by the Ministry of Tourism. The SAATHI application has been launched as part of the celebration.SAATHI is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Tourism in association with the Quality Council of India (QCI).
